As far as I know the only formal SPEC which we concluded upon was present
in the Google Doc (link
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_RYFXzhxHK525id0A930Pa1y38Ui2X5GgtAo68iE5Oc/edit?usp=sharing>)
which we discussed upon. This design was implemented in the CJSON writer
present in cclib.
I'm not sure if you are looking for something more concrete, I can help if
we need to draft something more formal as I have some background in this
via GSOC.
