I wonder if this might be an OpenGL issue, someone else reported an issue. Avogadro 2 requires OpenGL 2.1, it is possible that the detection code is not working as expected and crashing rather than reporting the issue correctly. Do you know what graphics card/driver your machine uses? I will take a look, one problem I have is that I don't have good access to a machine without OpenGL 2.1 support. I have tested this on a Windows 7 machine (real) with an Intel embedded GPU, several VMs running Windows XP and Vista. I will see if I can set up a better test case to ensure we fail gracefully under those conditions.
