Otherwise, avrdude is the method of choice for Unix-like operating systems. I don't have an idea about how well the Ubuntu toolkit is maintained here. Version 5.5 is the most recent release of avrdude.
Thanks, I'll have to check what the version on Ubuntu is. By the way, how well is jtag supported on Linux?
