Yes, one line in GCC (not counting the regenerated files like
documentation, multilib mappings, command options, ... because they
don't matter) and one line in Binutils.
Such a contribution is considerably nice for someone that starts with
avr-gcc / avr-binutils because the change is straight forward, not
critical, adds functionality appreciated by many users, and one can
concentrate on and learn and understand how contributing works.
In the first contribution, it is likely to be puzzling what is needed
besides the very change, but one gets familiar with it soon after some
contributions.
As far as the "Lines of Code" are concerned, I thought that the limit is
15 lines, but nobody kills you if it are 16 i think ;-)
Extrapolating Atmel's issue rate of more then 1 derivative / month since
the time when 4.6 was released gives ~15 derivatives.
Or did they increase their issue rate because there are still so many
suffices and finite letter-digit combinations they don't yet cover?
