I originally left out all the diodes (two Z diodes and one standard
diode).  That did work on my FreeBSD Toshiba Libretto, but not on that
Linux box at work, so I added the diodes (making it look even worse).
Of course, it eventually ended up on not being the hardware but an
i386/amd64 confusion on the Linux end.
