I recently tried to program my Arduino using the stock avrdude, but
invariably got the error message:
Yikes: Invalid device signature.
(The device signature is all zero).
This does not happen with the avrdude that ships with the arduino software.
Comparing those two versions, the crucial difference is in the attached
patch.
The original author is David A. Mellis who doesn't know that I am submitting
this patch.
