Follow-up Comment #5, bug #40794 (project avrdude):
Hello, this has been fixed in the WINDOWS December 5, 2013 binary, but not the
Linux binary. If someone could fix this and reupload it, I'm sure it would be
quite helpful for others. Thanks!
