Making some multiplayer app in Away3D would be almost exactly like making
one in Flash 2D.

Away3D is just used to create the 3D graphics (or 2d with Z sort) so the
application looks 3D with perspective etc.

Usually for a multiplayer application you need a server, or some kind of
connection for information to be sent to all players. This can be done with
many server softwares like SmartFox server, Flash Media Server, Red5, or
a XML socket connection. There are in fact many servers/options out there
for flash.

It can be done using server side scripting such as PHP,MYSQL.

My suggestion would be forget the 3D for now, and get something working in
2D, like two people walking around with X,Y on the Flash stage.

Then you can create your 3d world in Away3D and replace the X,Y
with away3d's X,Z and now the same world is in 3D.

I hope it makes sense! It would be much better to start with some sample app
in 2D, that may come with the many servers. Just google for  "flash
multiplayer server", you will see many options/examples!
