Hi,

We have a client who builds large water storage tanks.

They can be varied in size both height and diameter and different
tanks can have different fittings such as outlet pipes etc.

They want to allow their clients to input various parameters, e.g.
width, height, number of pipes, position of each pipe etc etc using a
form and these values be translated into a representation of the tank
as it would look on receipt (doesn't need realistic textures or
anything. The shape and the position of the additional components is
the critical issue.)

They would be happy with 2d representations of this but when we looked
into it it seems that to get the additional components to look correct
when on the side of a cylinder as opposed to facing the viewer is
essentially a 3d problem anyway so we are looking into how to achieve
this kind of interface using a 3d engine.

Anyone any comments as to whether Away 3d and flash could be used to
achieve this.

Additional:
They have their products in CAD, anyone know a way we could import the
models from CAD to AWAY 3d?

Any help really very gratefully received as we are a bit blind on this
at the moment and need to get back to them.
