wow, what a blast form the past! not just the demo, but the solution for it
- i had to adapt it a little but this was one of the very first solutions i
ever posted anyone about Away3d.

i've attached a modified Basic_Globe demo class that does what you want -
basically the rotation follows the mouse whereever it goes. usually for
something like a globe this is not so desirable, because objects end up in
all sorts of orientations. but the solution you want is quite simple (and
just to prove a point, it doesn't require quarternions! ;))
