Seems like there's a lot of optimization going on to make it work.

I did few experiments with papervision3D and away3Dlite and found that both were working almost same. it was because of transparency as Peter and Joshua mentioned however I tried to use same transparency and removed obj.material.smooth property and now CPU usage is reduced about 60%.
