Hi all,

Few questions if anyone could help that would be great:

Q1. Which is best / easiest / quickest / most productive for modelling and
export to Away3D - 3D Max 2010? Maya 2010? Blender?
I got Blender and 3DMax 30 day trial installed. Blender's UI and menu
dialogues are about as user friendly as Unix is to my grand mother. 3D max
2010 has a nicer more understandable ui and menu system but am unable to
export anything without texture errors from fbx collada (dae).

WARNING MESSAGE *Failed to export the following textures, they will be
exported as generic textures:*

*-Map #1*

Got this error from 3DMax 2010 doing this for a test:
STEP 1: Created a cube
STEP 2: Pressed "M" for materials window
STEP 3: Selected sphere from material spheres list
STEP 4: Applied a marble texture to the sphere texture preview selected
STEP 5: Drag and dropped the sphere texture preview to the cube
STEP 6: Pressed show texture on primitive (this showed my cube had my marble
texture on it in perspective view)
STEP 7: File > Export > FIle type DAE
STEP 8: Tried lots of random settings but closest I've got is with error
above which still creates dae file just no texture.

I also had a look at the png someone posted of their 3D Max 2010 output
settings on FBX Collada a few days ago and tried same settings with no joy.

I tested loading up the cube into prefab and it shows the cube just fine...
So it's just the texture I'm having problems with.

Q2. Max format appears to be quite a small file size, compared to DAE
versions of the same model which I have been tinkering with - exported from
Max 2010. Is max the the best functionally supported format in Away3D?
Included mesh bone animation? or this equal among all the supported types
supported by away3D? So file type/format doesn't really matter as long as
it's supported?

Q3. Texturing - models created in an external 3D program require the
material to be UV mapped? Could anyone give me some pointers on texture
creation or have any tutorials for the correct texturing methods to allow
the export of the model to be supported by prefab and away3D? I've read a
lot of people are finding they have to apply their textures in prefab and
export model and texture separately from their modelling application of
choice? I'm still googling how to export texture separately in max 2010 and
to get the dae model export to not error.

Ideally I will try to work this process out for all 3 - Blender, Max and
Maya and post a process flow to my site. Then I will start on prefab
examples.

Thanks

D
