Bah.  This may be Java doing something stupid.

I normally run with wmname set to "compiz" to trick Java windows into 
displaying (as I have issues with MToolkit and some applications I need at work).

I just tried the attached program with AWT_TOOLKIT=MToolkit, and it worked just 
fine.

So don't expend lots of effort on this issue; but of course, if there's a 
simple fix it would be nice... :)
