AFAICT it requests window geometry. I've also found another drawback: when awesome is crashing, all windows get stucked in negative coordinates. That totally screw the next start of awesome in multiple head, since it puts everything in screen 1 by default if the windows are offscreen. That could be bypassed by stocking a property, but really, that sucks.
