Details - I've been using Awesome 2.x for a while, as shipped with Ubuntu 9.04
and Debian Lenny but I'm running into a bundle of various dependency/build
issues when trying to build git master.

This is a twofold ticket:

1. Is there a general willingness to make awesome build on "older" (ie: debian
stable) systems, given feedback?
2. If so - is there any work towards increased compatibility going on, and do
you need help?

I'm offering to do the legwork here but I need to know it's something the
project as a whole will appreciate.

I did a quick read-through of the commits that were relevant to the first four
or five issues I ran into, and it looked - at first glance - like mostly
trivial stuff. Unless you're aware of some bigger dependencies that you really
do need for some insane^W reason where using a slightly older version of the
library would be hard?

On an other note: are there any less formal communication methods, like IRC?
The mailing list looks like it's mostly bug-mail.
