A new Flyspray task has been opened. Details are below. User who did this - Max G. (panzor)
Attached to Project - awesome
Summary - statusbar always on top after lower resolution on the fly with xrandr
Task Type - Bug Report
Category - Core
Status - Unconfirmed
Assigned To - Operating System - Linux
Severity - Low
Priority - Normal
Reported Version - git/3.4
Due in Version - Undecided
Due Date - Undecided
Details - Hello, I'm running version 3.4.4 and loving it.

There's one problem I see, and since I can replicate the undesired function, I
figured I'd file the bug.

Problem: when setting resolution with xrandr, the statusbar (in my case, at the
top) is always on top of all other windows. Hitting Mod4+f fullscreens the
application, but the statusbar is still covering, say, the tabs in firefox.

To fix this problem, I restart X with my desired resolution and do not have
this issue. I assume awesome somehow gets the resolution from xorg.conf instead
of wherever xrandr changes things. The reason why this is a problem for me is
because I'm playing a fullscreen game that needs a lower resolution in order to
have good frames/sec, and in my script, xrandr is used. Starcraft REQUIRES that
I can drag my mouse to the top of the screen without leaving the game, so it's
unplayable unless I restart X, which is annoying.

How to replicate problem:

xrandr --size 1440x900 ##or a resolution lower than specified in xorg.conf
urxvt ##then hold mod4 and leftclick, drag the window to the statusbar. It will
go underneath instead of over top
# another way is to open up firefox and hit mod4+f. The top is cut off by the
statusbar.

I hope that helps someone make awesomewm even better. Thanks in advance. :)
PS: I filed it under "core," but I doubt that's where it belongs. Sorry :(
