Does awesome say anything on stderr? If you started it with GDM or KDM, that's usually
captured in ~/.xsession-errors. FWIW, i simply put that stuff into ~/test.lua and did
`dofile("test.lua")` in awesome-client.
Also, it'd be good if we moved this to the user mailing list, as it's not
really a bug :)
