FS#983 - Lua 5.2 support User who did this - Rob Hoelz (hoelzro) ---------- I think that Lua 5.2 is intended more as a version for new applications, rather than an upgrade path for existing ones. Converting the application to Lua 5.2 would require a good deal of work and little benefit; in fact, since 5.2 is still so young, very few modules have been ported to make use of it. Because of this, porting Awesome to Lua 5.2 would break nearly any rc.lua that uses external modules. Also, many Linux distributions are staying on Lua 5.1 for now; if you upgrade to 5.2, you either alienate users of distributions that don't ship 5.2, bring the burden of maintaining a Lua 5.2 package for these distributions on the Awesome community (assuming a third party 5.2 package doesn't already exist for those distributions), or require Awesome to include the Lua sources in its own source tree. ---------- More information can be found at the following URL: https://awesome.naquadah.org/bugs/index.php?do=details&task_id=983#comment2930 You are receiving this message because you have requested it from the Flyspray bugtracking system.
