Please tell me that you did a mistake when creating those files:
$ grep -i fullscreen vbox.xprop vmware.xprop
vbox.xprop:_NET_WM_STATE(ATOM) = _NET_WM_STATE_FULLSCREEN
vmware.xprop:TATE(ATOM) = _NET_WM_STATE_FULLSCREEN
The first one is correct, the second one is impossible.
Also, could you attach your rc.lua?
