Details - How to reproduce:
1. setup a non-zero width in your theme
2. restart Awesome
3. position a client so its {width|height} equals to a screen {width|height}
4. call awful.placement.center_{horizontal|vertical} function on it
Expected: client has the same position
Observed: client moved for the width of its border
