This confuses me a bit.  How are you supposed to have a window maximized,
without it being set to float?  If it wasn't floating, then it'd break the
rules of your layout, excepting the layout that puts all windows as max (I'm
not sure offhand what it's called).

What is it exactly you're trying to do?  Why do you not want it to be
floating?
