Ok this seems to work for me:

wi_1=widget({type='textbox'})
wi_2=widget({type="textbox"})
wi_3=widget({type="textbox"})
wi_4=widget({type="textbox"})
wi_1.text="wi 1"
wi_2.text="wi 2"
wi_3.text="wi 3"
wi_4.text="wi 4"
progress_wi=awful.widget.progressbar()
progress_wi:set_background_color('white')
progress_wi:set_height(10)
text_wi=widget({type="textbox"})
text_wi.text="text_wi"
vert_wis={progress_wi,text_wi,["layout"]=awful.widget.layout.vertical.flex}
container={wi_1,wi_2,wi_3,vert_wis,wi_4,["layout"]=awful.widget.layout.horizontal.leftright}

then add container to a wibox
There's quite a big space between the vert_wis and wi_4, but I think that
some tweaking should solve this.
