On the subject of parcellite, I would use .xinitrc (In your $HOME) to launch
parcellite rather than awesome. You can also daemonize it and specify no
tray icon (as I do, mere suggestions):

parcellite -d -n &

There might be a more Ubuntu-ish way to specify startup applications, but
there shouldn't be any trouble doing it the old fashioned way.

On the subject of dmenu/yeganesh, it is a fine launcher for awesome. You can
also modify the colors to fit your beautiful theme, as I have done:

local spawn_dmenu = "dmenu" ..
                       " -fn '".. beautiful.font_alt .. "'" ..
                       " -nb '".. beautiful.bg_normal.. "'" ..
                       " -nf '".. beautiful.fg_normal.. "'" ..
                       " -sb '".. beautiful.bg_focus .. "'" ..
                       " -sf '".. beautiful.fg_focus .. "'"

In order, I specify font, the normal foreground/background and the selected
foreground/background, which change if I ever update my theme file. For me,
using yeganesh is a bit more difficult:

local spawn_yeganesh = "exe=`/home/byte/bin/dmenu_yeganesh" ..
                       " -fn '".. beautiful.font_alt .. "'" ..
                       " -nb '".. beautiful.bg_normal.. "'" ..
                       " -nf '".. beautiful.fg_normal.. "'" ..
                       " -sb '".. beautiful.bg_focus .. "'" ..
                       " -sf '".. beautiful.fg_focus .. "'`" ..
                       " && exec $exe"

Where dmenu_yeganesh is a simple sh script:

exec `echo | yeganesh -- $...@`

Here is the end result, though: http://omploader.org/vNTBqZg/07-22_05-33.png

Aesthetic tastes may differ but I contend that it's far prettier--or, at
least, more cohesive to my desktop--than the defaults. Obviously ymmv, if
you decide to use yeganesh definitely follow James' way before my own as his
is probably preferrable.
