What is your vim version? Vim had a resize error when one is changing
the window size. That error has been fix in recent vim version. If your
vim version is 7.3 but not the latest version, maybe you should update
your vim.

I just compiled the newest version. The misbehaviour still
persists.

Try annother terminal, like gmone-terminal or konsole (something not xterm based). Try it on a real tty too
