hey there! iam using custom layouts to achieve this. https://github.com/intrntbrn/awesome fair.lua / tile.lua / spiral.lua iam not the author of the files (dont know where i got them from) and i also dont know if they will work in awesome-git. you have to specify "useless_gap" in these files.
