Hello, I'm new to tiling managers, so apologies if this is obvious! Although I like the idea of tiling, I'm not sure if/how my workflow below fits into the paradigm.
Within a workspace, I'd like to have my Emacs window on the left half of the window, and keep it 'pinned there' to half the screen. On the right hand half, I'd like the remaining space to be used by whatever application (a terminal, Firefox, evince) needs it -- and those other windows exist in e.g. tabbed mode (as i3wm calls it). What I don't want to happen is for Emacs to shrink as other applications get added to workspace one. So no matter how many new windows get opened (normally by Emacs, e.g. when opening email attachments), I'd like the screen to stay in 2 columns, with Emacs on top on the left, and whatever other application (normally evince or chrome) on the right. Is Emacs an example here of what you'd call the master window? best wishes, Stephen -- To unsubscribe, send mail to [email protected].
