I realize this is a dead thread, but since it comes up in Google searches, I 
thought that I would add a solution I found through trial and error:

If you running terminator with multiple splits (multiple terminal windows), 
and in one of them you accidentally change the font size by doing ctrl + 
minus the window will shrink. If you ctrl + plus to return the font to its 
original size, the window will not shrink upon window resize.
