This is not necessarily correct, but:
- Lua is easy.
- Lua is easy to embed.
- Lua has nice-ish syntax (compared to other stuff (Lisp is better
IMNSHO)).

The only language I'd be interested in is either GNU GUILE or Common
Lisp. Maybe EMACS Lisp, but that has a lot of editor primitives.
