Hans,

What follows is a suggestion to deal with your situation elegantly. A more
detailed examination of your situation might reveal issues that make this
suggestion less optimal or even a non-starter.

The solution uses a combination of functionality of the client PC, it's
attached hardware and Axapta.

1. assuming that the client OS is WinXP, allow user switching(multi users to
each be logged on concurrently in different sessions on the PC)
2. set the automatic shutdown option under user options to force axapta to
shutdown after a pre-determined amount of time. This will prevent sessions
to remain connected for indeterminate periods.
3. configure Ax to trust the client OS user id so that a user does not have
to specify a password when the Ax session has terminated and has to be
restarted.
4. attach a biometric fingerprint scanner to allow the user to merely scan
his fingerprint to activate his particular WinXP client session.
5. set the XP screensaver options so that the PC is locked after a very
short period of inactivity, forcing the user to scan his finger to return to
his XP session.

Not a 100% solution(would have to restart Axapta COMPLETELY if the session
is timed out), but almost there.

Hope this helps.

Subject: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Switch user - Log off without shutdown?

We have a need for the user of a device to change frequently. Does
anyone have a suggestion for logging a user off Axapta back to the
login screen? Closing the app and re-starting from a desktop icon
takes longer. Also, any way of logging off automatically after an
idle period? (Not if changes have been made to a current form I
guess.)

Thanks

Hans
