installing Axis c++ on linux

Hi all!   I am trying to install Axis c++ client and compile the src on linux and I have some questions:   Which version is the most stable for linux? I downloaded version 1.5.0 and in the INSTALL file step five I need to run ./configure but there is no such script, what is the right way to do it?
