I think axis2/java too uses reference parameters in one type of
session scopes it supports (SOAPSession).
Nop, not only addressing, they use addressing to pass parameters back
and forth, but use the context hierarchy to manage it. We have never
implemented it AFAICR, and we have not even tested this to start with AFAIK.
