More about this... I also compiled the Ref sample (as for other components, some little adjustment needed to the VC project files).
from a console, SimpleAxisServer 9000 and from my Firefox, http://localhost:9000/axis crashes SimpleAxisServer, with no error message in the console whatsoever. and from another console, RefClient http://localhost:9000/axis/services/ref has no effect.
