+1.  If its just a matter of providing an XML file for Maven to use in the tree, no 
problem.

I am still -1 on changing the build system away from ant.

Dan, we really do want your help with Axis, just on the laundry list of code problems 
we need to address.  I just think Axis has already gone through a (somewhat) painful 
"build improvement" project and I have no taste for another one.

I see absolutely no reason why a project.xml file could not be 
committed.  Maybe others will find value in it, maybe they won't. 
Either way, you obvious have an itch to scratch, so please provide a patch.
