Slow Service object creation

Environment: Sun Ultra 10/Solaris, Java 1.4.2_07. Axis 1.1 and 1.2RC3 tried.

The creation of the org.apache.axis.client.Service object using the default
constructor seems to take an excessive amount of time. It seems to vary between
5 and 10 seconds depending on the length of classpath I have set. Is this
normal?
I could not find any such problems reported on this system. On the web I only
found one mention of the same problem but no solution is suggested (apart from
using something other than Axis). See:
