axis 1.3 autotyping broken?

Let me rephrase, is there a reason why Axis wants tobase64 encode the headers?   Using Axis1.3 and turning on Autotyping (axis.doAutoTypes) on the client wsdd makes axis base64 encode the headers, is there some way this disable this encoding?   Any information will be helpful   Sid
