Please try doing
maven clean war -o -Dmaven.test.skip=true
on the latest SVN.
I was able to build the war in 3 mins:

[war] Building war: /home/ruchith/temp/axis2/java/target/dist/axis2.war
BUILD SUCCESSFUL
Total time: 2 minutes 56 seconds
Finished at: Fri Apr 21 15:56:07 LKT 2006
