To remove the dependency on sun.misc.Base64Encoding, I'm going to copy the class 'Base64' from Jakarta Commons HttpClient into org.apache.axis.utils.Base64.
This (or something) is necessary, because the J2EE security manager doesn't allow applications to instantiate sun.misc.* classes.
Has there been any general discussion on using integrating these functions with the jakarta commons HttpClient? Seems like they've addressed a number of issues I see being discussed.
