OK, that's good. I was thinking to extend the <deploy> task deploy on
external containers, but I'm not sure is worth doing so, given that you can
achieve the same thing, in a more flexible way, using the <get> task.

No. Although the docs are written in an extended xdocs format, I've written
my own targets to build the HTML and PDF documentation; I'll check out
xdoclet however.

I'm not very active though, I'm busy with other projects, mainly Anteater
and Cocoon. I'd be glad however to help out setting up a testing framework
for SOAP services. I've setup the basic infrastructure for testing Cocoon
using Anteater, so that new tests can be executed on the fly; if there's
enough interest, I can help doing the same for Axis.
