Yep, there are some inherent security risks involved with the SOAP-over-IM 
model, but I'm working through a couple possible solutions.  BEEP is a 
good option, but it's not something I'd have the cycles to work on.  Half 
a dozen things at a time :-)

I've seen Simon fell demo SOAP-over-Jabber, and while it is cool 
(callbacks
through a firewall, anyone?), I'd be reluctant to use it for the same 
reason
its so cool: once you do callbacks you have to worry about client side
security. That doesnt mean that I dont think its a worthy programming
exercise, only that it has inherent risks.

SOAP-over-BEEP appeals to me...
