I found it's fine to find 2 versions of axis on the same tomcat, say axis 1.x and axis2 0.9x. The only thing to take care is the different classpath for axis 1 and 2. And some .bat or .sh tool code delivered in axis2 may not work properly because of the setup of 'axishome'.
