Did you have a look at the wiki

You have to play with CommonsHttpSender,
binding._setProperty(HTTPConstants.MC_GZIP_REQUEST, Boolean.TRUE) and
binding._setProperty(HTTPConstants.MC_ACCEPT_GZIP, Boolean.TRUE).
