-write a q&d java main class which starts org.apache.catalina.startup.Embedded
another way is to (make sure you're not using the port before invoking Axis
standalone server)
IF %AXIS_HOME%\conf\axis2.xml

class="org.apache.axis2.transport.http.SimpleHTTPServer">
<parameter name="port" locked="false">8080</parameter>
do a netstat -a | grep 8080
if no processes listening on that port then run
%AXIS_HOME%/bin/axis2server

(Assuming you are talking about Axis2.) Embedding an HTTP Server like Jetty
