Sun's "Fast Web Services" are really not all that fast, considering that it's using binary data rather than text. I have a comparison I did back around the same time as the Sun article was written which compares the speed of my earlier JibxSoap project to both other SOAP stacks and RMI. JibxSoap achieved performance that was almost on a par with RMI (apparently faster than "Fast Web Services") while still using full XML representations. You can find the full details here: http://www.sosnoski.com/presents/cleansoap/results.html
Incidentally, a new developer (Nigel Charman) has gotten involved with the former JibxSoap code and we're working on a new JiBX/WS release to take this forward into production. I'll make sure that we keep compatibility with Axis2, and will post something on this list when JiBX/WS is available for beta testing. - Dennis -- Dennis M.
