Sun's "Fast Web Services" are really not all that fast, considering that
it's using binary data rather than text. I have a comparison I did back
around the same time as the Sun article was written which compares the
speed of my earlier JibxSoap project to both other SOAP stacks and RMI.
JibxSoap achieved performance that was almost on a par with RMI
(apparently faster than "Fast Web Services") while still using full XML

Incidentally, a new developer (Nigel Charman) has gotten involved with
the former JibxSoap code and we're working on a new JiBX/WS release to
take this forward into production. I'll make sure that we keep
compatibility with Axis2, and will post something on this list when
JiBX/WS is available for beta testing.
