To find the solution, I analyzed the requests with Wireshark.
I wrote some simple code using httpclient and compared the requests sent by my 
code with the requests sent by Axis2.
Chunked transfer encoding was the only difference between the requests.
This issue is perhaps due to a limitation of our proxy...
