Just to follow on what Andreas said.
If there is a proxy server you may lauch your client the following command:

java -Dhttp.proxyHost=[proxyServer.com] -Dhttp.proxyPort=[#port number] -jar
yourWebServiceClientPackagedAsAjarFile.jar
