Thanks, but I don't see a server-config.wsdd under axis/WEB-INF in the 
latest 1.1 release.... I tried just using the wsdd I was deploying with 
and renaming it to server-config.wsdd but that didn't quite work.

Once you deploy your service, unless you undeploy it, your service will be
there when the webapp starts.  If you didn't want to deploy from scratch,
try adding your service to server-config.wsdd under axis/WEB-INF.

I am using axis as part of an existing web application.  The service 
deploys fine using the wsdd, my question is how can I have the service 
be deployed by default when the webapp starts?  just like the AxisAdmin 
Service.
