I have this book (Axis: The Next Generation of Java SOAP (ISBN: 1861007159) (pub: Wrox)), and I read through it before I started using Axis at all. It's a pretty good architecture overview of Axis. I pull it out periodically for reference. It has good pictures and sequence diagrams of how the internals of Axis work, as well as discussions of the internal Axis classes. The examples are OK, but it's mainly a good fleshing out of the Axis docs themselves (which are often somewhat sparse). Another plus: the book is thin, so you're not committing 4 inches of shelf space to it. It gets the job done without fluff (though there are plenty of sample codes, sample SOAP msgs, sample WSDLs, sample WSDDs, etc.).
On the down side, they rushed to get this out (and I rushed to buy it), and there is NO index, and there are a LOT of misspellings and minor errors, but finding them is like a little game that adds to the enjoyment of reading it. Overall, a good reference to have, though I would certainly appreciate a second edition (maybe there is one now?) that was cleaned up a bit. Oh, and there's a very pleasant picture of Romin Irani (one of the authors) on the cover. He looks very pleased and satisfied with his work, and has a certain calmness about him that inspires you to understand what he's saying, which is an interesting juxtaposition with the hot red hue of the cover. -- Dan Kamins On Wed, 9 Jul 2003 23:39:28 +0200, Mailindra wrote: >Hallo all, >How about the book from Wrox, Axis: The Next Generation of Java >SOAP(ISBN: 1861007159). >Have anyone review this book? > >Regards, > >mailindra >
