Not sure I understood the solution you are proposing.
I already have a servlet that is making the call to the endpoint.
In our environment all the application servers sit behind load balancers
(that do not have session replication turned on for some reason -- if
session replication was turned on, my problems would be a non-issue).
The servlet in my case needs to find the right instance of the app server
with the information in memory (using a backend database to store that
information was not a possibility).
Since the servlet is also loadbalanced, and subsequent calls could
go to servlets in other instances, using the Axis session solutions
proposed in the FAQ do not work.
The only way I know to fake out the loadbalancer is to get the
actual jsessionid from the first call and use it to find the
instance with the Axis service that serviced my original call.

Since soap is supposed to be transport agnostic, I'd be suprised if
there was an easy way to do this. Since you just want the cookie for
load ballancing and it has nothing to do with the actual soap service
(or does it?), why not write a small proxy servlet that sits between
soap and the http server. It can do the usual servlet stuff, get the
cookie perform whatever action it needs, then forward the request to the
soap service. Just a thought. Seems like a waste to couple the cookie to
the soap service. Then again, I missed the begining of this thread, so I
could be way off base.
