Geronimo - The Apache J2EE App Server will support JSR 109
(Implemented using Axis). FYI, Jonas, JBoss, JRun all use Axis for
their web services support (see
http://nagoya.apache.org/wiki/apachewiki.cgi?AxisProjectPages/AxisBeingUsed
for list of other products). Eventually all app servers will support
JSR 109. Axis is still needed on the client-side and Servlet
(non-EJB) only environments. There are other scenarios as well, for
example, folks who use latest Axis with JBoss instead of the default
version of Axis.

Axis by itself is still needed for Servlet only environments
