IMHO, they should be separated. Providers serve two purposes, one is "get me
the data from somewhere", the other one is "make that a double XML with soda,
please".
As Kip says, the current system works well enough, so I agree with him, there
is no immediate need. If anyone ever tackles this, I think those two tasks
should be split into (Data) "Access" and (XML) "Prepare" (or whatever naming
scheme you come up with). Of course, there would be a null prepare module,
for when we already have XML.
